Open Society Foundations Scholarships in European Studies 2011

The Open Society Foundations, Maastricht University (The Netherlands) and Aarhus University (Denmark) invite applications for scholarships in the field of European Studies. Applicants will be able to apply for one of the three master courses offered at Maastricht University the MA in European Studies, MA in Analysing Europe and the MA in European Public Affairs; or for the MA in European Studies at the University of Aarhus. Candidates may apply to one or maximum two of the courses listed above, with the first choice of course clearly stated.
Scholarships at Maastricht University are offered for maximum 18 months and include 12 months of full time study on the master course and a six-month internship after the completion of the course.
Scholarships at Aarhus University are offered for maximum 24 months and are for full time study on the master course program. Internships of two to three months may be carried out during the summer break.
Applicants can apply to both universities, but they will need to submit two separate applications, one for Aarhus and one for Maastricht. The two universities have different application forms and the attached documents which have Maastricht(http://www.osvita.org/application/Maastricht.zip)
or Aarhus(http://www.osvita.org/application/Aarhus.zip) in the title should be used by the applicants depending n which university they want to apply to.
The courses offered at Maastricht and Aarhus are very different in the approaches they use to study European Studies, format and structure. Therefore, the candidates are strongly encouraged to inform themselves very well before they decide which course to apply for: throughout the selection process, candidates should be able to justify very well their choice of course and demonstrate their suitability for the given course in terms of their background and future plans.

The scholarships are open for applicants from Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and the Ukraine.
The deadline for applications is 7 February 2011.

Applicants should have outstanding relevant academic qualifications and good English skills. Each scholarship covers the tuition fees at the host university and a stipend to cover living costs (for one person only) for the duration of the scholarship and return air travel from the scholars home country.
Successful applicants will be expected to attend a one-month preparatory academic writing summer school in July 2011. The academic program at Maastricht and Aarhus universities will start on the 1st of September 2011.
On completion of the scholarship, scholars are expected to return to their home country to resume their studies or work there.
